Creating a more sustainable island has recently taken a prominent seat in many individual’s minds as the reliance on imported energy has impacted W.E.B. Aruba N.V. in several ways. Energy is central to sustainable development and the company’s policies support energy efficiency and sustainable energy. Sustainable energy is the provision of energy such that it meets the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their needs. Sustainable energy sources are most often regarded as renewable energy sources such as wind power and solar power. Considering Aruba’s ideal conditions for wind energy, W.E.B. Aruba N.V. is developing a wind turbine park on a limited piece of land of 1.500 meters in Vader Piet. It is the company’s fundamental commitment to reduce the dependence on fuel oil as energy source. It is however the island’s collective ability that will give effective support to meet goals and challenges linked to energy security concerns.

W.E.B. Aruba N.V. now takes a first step towards achieving a renewableenergy generating portfolio, through the application of new technologies. Application of membrane technology for seawater desalination and RECIP engines that improve fuel oil efficiency, are the first results of this new approach. In addition to the Vader Piet wind energy park, research will demonstrate the feasibility of a Seawater Airconditioning project on the island.

“Energia Aruba 2025”, W.E.B. Aruba N.V.’s strategic energy plan considers additional technology options to achieve the goal of “less fuel and more energy”. These projects will be disclosed at a proper time, as soon as research shows that these resources could be used in an economically viable way.
